How the ICE scoring formula works
This ICE score calculator uses the same 1-to-10 scale for every factor. Impact estimates how much the request could move the goal. Confidence discounts weak evidence. Ease rewards work that can be shipped with less time, complexity and coordination. A high result only means an item ranks above the other items scored with the same rubric.
Worked example
Bulk CSV export has strong customer evidence and meaningful operational impact, but it still needs engineering work. Score Impact 8, Confidence 9 and Ease 4. Its ICE score is 8 × 9 × 4 = 288. Dark mode is easier but less impactful: 5 × 8 × 8 = 320. ICE puts dark mode first because speed is part of the model. That disagreement is useful, because the team can now inspect whether the Impact or Ease anchors need better evidence.
Do not mistake a score for the roadmap
ICE deliberately ignores audience size, dependencies, strategic commitments and which customers are affected. Use it to create a consistent first ranking, then examine the evidence. If Reach varies materially, use the RICE versus ICE comparison. If the score must stay connected to votes, MRR, segments and delivery, continue in the ProductLift ICE workflow. The broader prioritization module connects the framework to the full feedback-to-roadmap decision.
